When a FedEx delivery driver stumbled upon a serious car accident, he immediately pulled over to help. However, once he heard that a little boy was still trapped inside the wrecked vehicle, he immediately sprang to action — and it was all caught on video.
Driving home from work, all Damien Rose wanted was a quiet evening. But life had other plans. As he drove down a highway in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, he saw two cars tangled near the median, smoke billowing ominously.
“I just happen to see smoke coming from out of the distance and saw the two cars and was like automatically I knew it was an accident,” said Rose. Rather than just drive past, he trusted his instincts and pulled over.
Rose quickly assessed the situation. Most of the people involved seemed okay, milling around their cars but then, he heard frantic shouts, “Get the kid! Get the kid!” No time to waste, Rose’s pulse quickened as he realized the urgency.
Inside one of the wrecked vehicles, a little boy was still strapped in his car seat, with smoke seeping under the hood. Rose acted on instinct, determined to avert a potential tragedy. “It was just a first instinct of, ‘I’m not gonna let anybody die or anything like that,’” he later told WRAL.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Rose pried open the car door, unbuckled the terrified child, and carried him to safety. His FedEx truck’s security camera captured the heartwarming moment as the boy nestled his head against Rose’s chest, feeling safe at last.
As if rescuing a child wasn’t enough, Rose noticed a woman trapped inside another vehicle. Though she wasn’t in immediate danger, he rushed over, hoping to free her. When he couldn’t open any doors, he calmed her fears, promising to stay until emergency crews arrived.
Thanks to Rose’s bravery, both families were incredibly relieved. They showered him with gratitude, but Rose believes he’s the fortunate one. His actions that day were inspired by the memory of his grandma, who was once saved in a similar accident.
“If you’re in public and see anything, even if it’s not an accident, just anything in danger, you should actually tend to it,” Rose said, hoping his story encourages others to act when needed. He holds a firm belief in karma, saying, “Hopefully blessings come back. It always comes back. I never trip about things like that.”
Heroes come in all forms and Damien Rose embodies that spirit. He risked his safety to rescue a child from a potentially burning vehicle and comforted another victim until help arrived.
This story reminds us what it means to be human: our willingness to step up and help strangers in their moment of need. Rose’s quick actions in a risky situation speak volumes about his character. Here’s to hoping his acts of kindness bring him the good karma he undoubtedly deserves.
