Princess Beatrice Has a Lively Chat with Lena Dunham and Stephen Fry in Wimbledon’s Royal Box

King Charles’ niece isn’t the first royal to attend the tennis tournament this year.

Princess Beatrice brought a touch of royalty to the Royal Box at Wimbledon on July 9. Joining her was her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. The couple were spotted enjoying day nine of the tournament, sitting front and center to watch Italy’s Jannik Sinner take on Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the men’s singles quarterfinals.

Donning a beautiful floral print dress, Princess Beatrice looked effortlessly chic. Adhering to the Royal Box’s dress code, Edoardo complemented his stylish wife with a dapper brown suit and a touch of color from his blue shirt and red tie.

The couple were not alone in the prestigious Royal Box. They were seen engaging in lively conversations with familiar faces, including English comedian Michael McIntyre, actor Stephen Fry, and Girls star Lena Dunham. Everyone seemed to be having a great time before focusing on the exciting tennis match.

It appears that Wimbledon has become an annual tradition for Beatrice and Edo. They have been attending the tournament together since 2021, even when they were expecting their first child, Sienna Elizabeth, who was born that September.

Royal family members often grace Wimbledon with their presence. This year has already seen appearances from other royals like the Duchess of Gloucester, who attended twice, and Prince Albert of Monaco, who was spotted on July 8. Prince Michael of Kent was there earlier during the event’s fifth day.

Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece and his daughter, Princess Maria-Olympia, were present on the opening day, as was Lord Frederick Windsor, a relative of Queen Elizabeth. Even Kate Middleton’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, joined the Wimbledon fun on July 4.

The Royal Box, known for its association with the monarchy, doesn’t exclusively seat royals. Invitations are handed out by the chairman of the All England Club, with recommendations offered by various committees and associations involved with Wimbledon. The coveted seats welcome an impressive mix of notable figures from various walks of life, including international royals, government officials, tennis aficionados, commercial partners, and members of the media.

This year’s tournament has already hosted celebrities like Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, Bake Off star Mary Berry, actress Salma Hayek, and theater legend Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Royal Box attendees are treated to a delightful end to their day with an invitation to the Clubhouse for some refreshing drinks, tea, and lunch.

Whether Princess Kate will attend Wimbledon this year remains uncertain as she continues her treatment for cancer. As the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club since 2016, she traditionally presents the prizes to the winners.

The All England Club’s chair, Debbie Jevans, expressed hope that Princess Kate would be present for the trophy presentation, but emphasized that her health is the top priority. The final decision may not be made until the finals’ morning.

“We’re hopeful that the Princess of Wales will be able to present the trophies as the Club’s patron, but her health and recovery is the priority,” Jevans shared in a recent interview. “We don’t know what we don’t know. We’ll work with her and give her as much flexibility as possible.”

If Princess Kate cannot attend, the duties might fall to the Duchess of Gloucester, an avid tennis fan and the current Honorary President of the Lawn Tennis Association, as reported by The Telegraph.
