JoJo Siwa Says Her Grandma Encouraged Her to Drink Liquor on Stage: ‘You Should Do It’

The “Karma” singer revealed the origin story behind her onstage drinking ritual during the latest episode of her ‘JoJo Siwa Now’ podcast.

JoJo Siwa gets no complaints about her onstage drinking from her grandma — in fact, she encourages it.

On the July 8 episode of her podcast, JoJo Siwa Now, the 21-year-old performer revealed the origin story behind one of her “favorite parts” of her Pride sets — “when I drink the alcohol on stage” — which she apparently began doing after getting a thumbs up from her grandmother.

“This idea of doing this stemmed from, I was in rehearsals and we were starting a new routine [for] ‘Yesterday’s Tomorrow’s Today,’ and my 21st birthday had just passed,” Siwa explained. “I was like, ‘I wanna take a shot before this.’ And my grandma was like, ‘Alright, JoJo. You should do it.’ And I was like, alright. Let’s do it!”

The “Karma” singer also shared that her shot time ritual during Pride performances makes crowds go “absolutely ballistic,” adding that it became a “big thing” in June during Los Angeles Pride at the Park.

“I bought out a jug of Tito’s, and people were like, ‘Woah. What are you doing? Is it real? Is it fake?’” she recalled. “And I was like, ‘It is what it is. It’s a bottle of Tito’s.’”

Siwa is coming off a string of Pride Fest performances in L.A., London, New York, Miami, and Chicago, the latter two of which she set audience records at. “Chicago Pride WHAT!!!🌈,” the Dance Moms alum wrote in an Instagram caption celebrating the feat. “What a time to be alive. Yesterday was unreal. I found out I set the record for most people in attendance at Chicago Pride at 2 in the afternoon… THAT IS NUTTY.”

“You all really did that, showed up and had the best time with me,” the singer continued. “I saw you all with your posters, your Karma makeup, some construction vests, some JoJo bows, epic. Best time, I love you, THANK YOU.”

Siwa’s recent performances precede her debut EP, Guilty Pleasure, and next single of the same name, both dropping on Friday, July 12. The star announced her first full-length project in an Instagram post featuring her tracklist and a snippet of an upcoming music video. She wrote in the caption, “The countdown is ON.”
