General Hospital Actor Doug Sheehan Dies at 75

Doug Sheehan, an actor beloved for his role on the soap opera General Hospital, has passed away at the age of 75.

His death was announced by the Kane Funeral Home in Wyoming, revealing that Doug Sheehan died peacefully at home on the morning of June 29, 2024, with his loving wife beside him.

The funeral home stated that arrangements are still pending and they have been entrusted with the local services. The cause of Doug Sheehan’s death has not yet been disclosed.

Born in California, Doug Sheehan’s television journey began in 1978 with an appearance on Charlie’s Angels. His big break came in 1979 when he was cast as lawyer Joe Kelly on General Hospital.

Sheehan’s portrayal on General Hospital lasted until 1982 and earned him a Daytime Emmy nomination for outstanding actor in a supporting role in a daytime drama series that same year.

He continued his career by joining the cast of the Dallas spinoff, Knots Landing, in 1983. He played reporter Ben Gibson, becoming the second husband of Valene Ewing (Joan Van Ark).

After leaving Knots Landing in 1988, Doug Sheehan appeared in the NBC sitcom Day by Day as stockbroker Brian Harper. The series ran for two seasons and featured actors like Linda Kelsey and Christopher Daniel Barnes.

In addition to his TV roles, Doug Sheehan made appearances on classic shows like MacGyver, Diagnosis Murder, Columbo, Cheers, and the Clueless TV series. He also graced the big screen in movies such as the 1979 comedy 10, 1982’s Victor/Victoria, and 1995’s Cops n Roberts.

His final on-screen appearances included guest roles on What I Like About You, featuring Amanda Bynes and Jennie Garth, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch, starring Melissa Joan Hart.
