Danny Trejo, 80, Throws a Chair, Gets Knocked to Ground During Fight with Crowd at Fourth of July Parade

The actor got into a fight with parade attendees in Los Angeles after someone appeared to throw water balloons at the car he was in

Danny Trejo found himself in a bit of a scuffle on Independence Day. The beloved actor got into a physical altercation with some attendees at a Fourth of July parade in Los Angeles.

According to TMZ and videos circulating on social media, the altercation happened in the Sunland-Tujunga neighborhood when someone threw water balloons at the vintage convertible Trejo was riding in. In response, people around his vehicle started shouting “No water!”

Tensions rose quickly, and Trejo, 80, got out of the car to confront the crowd. Video footage shows the actor throwing a punch and being knocked to the ground briefly. In the heat of the moment, he also threw a lawn chair before others managed to break up the fight.

The situation cooled down after police arrived roughly ten minutes later, according to ABC7 Eyewitness News. A witness mentioned that while water balloons are a common occurrence at that parade, they usually aren’t thrown at fancy cars, which might have upset Trejo. Before the incident, he had been seen smiling for photos with the crowd along the parade route.

On Instagram, Trejo shared a holiday message encouraging people to take care of their dogs on the Fourth of July. He did not comment on the altercation.

Reflecting on his life, Trejo discussed the unexpected turn his life took in an interview on the eve of his 80th birthday in May. From troubled times in California, frequent run-ins with the law, and multiple jail stints, Trejo found a new path in the 1980s when he ventured into acting.

“Anytime somebody asks me did I ever imagine, I never imagined getting out of prison,” he said at the time. “The last thing I heard the parole board say in 1969 was, ‘Bring us back a life sentence. We’re sick and tired of you.’ I never went back. I mean, every day, every day for me is just a blessing.”

His journey from a turbulent past to becoming a cherished actor is truly inspiring to many.
