Our dogs love us so deeply that they stay loyal to us even after we’ve departed. There are numerous touching tales of pets staying by their late owner’s deathbed or visiting their gravesite.

However, this particular story is especially poignant: a dog was found waiting for his owner at the site where the owner tragically ended his life.

This loyal dog was discovered on the Yangtze Bridge in Wuhan, China. A man named Xu happened upon the poor dog and shared photos of him on social media.

Xu attempted to rescue the dog, hoping to find it a good home. But after speaking with workers in the area, he learned that a man had jumped off the bridge on May 30. It dawned on Xu that the dog belonged to the deceased and was steadfastly waiting for his owner’s return.

“I wanted to rescue it, but it was too faithful to accept,” Mr. Xu shared with Chutian Metropolis Daily.

The dog refused food and water, staring through the railing, seemingly confused by what happened.

After Xu’s story spread, Du Fan, the director of the Wuhan Small Animal Protection Association, headed to the bridge and successfully rescued the dog.

Surveillance footage confirmed the heart-wrenching truth: the dog’s owner had indeed jumped off the bridge. The rescuers could only hope to offer the dog a new start.

“We still hope to find a new owner for the dog,” Du remarked, according to the Daily Mail. “It’s too sad for such a loyal dog to stray on the streets.”
