Kirk Cameron, known for his role in Growing Pains, has recently joined the wave of celebrities leaving California. On Wednesday, he shared his decision to move from his home state after observing California’s long-term changes and increasing division.
The father-of-six has relocated to Tennessee, driven partly by the fact that three of his grown children live there and partly by his desire for a place with a “healthy freedom mindset.”
In an interview with the Washington Examiner, Cameron explained, “If everything hits the fan and there’s some serious economic problems and division going on, we want to be around people who prioritize God, family, and country. It’s a really nice place to be.”
Interestingly, Cameron discovered there are “a lot of California refugees” now calling Tennessee home.
He humorously added, “It’s shocking how many Californians are here. And when I see them in the grocery store, I tell them, ‘Don’t California our Tennessee.’”
Following in the footsteps of his sister, Candace Cameron Bure, and many others, he left California seeking more safety and security. Despite the influx of former Californians, Cameron feels Tennessee’s strong values and, as he amusingly mentions, its good whiskey, make it a better place to live.
