After Girl’s Father Was Fatally Shot, She Never Talked or Walked Again. Nearly 2 Years Later, 4-Year-Old Is Dead

Birmingham police have informed that there are still no suspects in the tragic shooting that occurred in 2022. This investigation remains open as they continue to search for answers.

It’s with a heavy heart that we bring you the sad news about Madison Grace Davis, who passed away in June. Her family shared this on a GoFundMe page last week, confirming her tragic death.

Madison’s relative, Tiffany Davis, explained on the fundraising page that the young girl had “suffered from a traumatic brain injury” as a result of the accident that followed the shooting.

“Despite her incredible strength and courageous battle, she has now left us, and our hearts are shattered,” Davis shared.

The heartbreaking chain of events began on a normal day in Birmingham, Alabama. Madison’s father, Demarkus Etwan Moss, Sr., was driving with his children along Arkadelphia Road on the evening of September 2, 2022, when someone in another car started firing shots at them, Birmingham police said in a press release at the time.

Moss, even after being struck by gunfire, managed to drive about half a mile before colliding with another vehicle.

When the police arrived, they found Moss gravely injured from an apparent gunshot wound. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Little Madison, then just two years old, was found unresponsive but not from gunshot wounds. As per Officer Truman Fitzgerald, principal injuries she suffered were due to the accident itself.

Madison and the occupants of the other car involved in the accident were taken to various hospitals. While Madison’s younger brother thankfully escaped serious injuries, Madison faced a tough battle.

After being discharged from the hospital, Madison had to be readmitted due to complications, as reported by AL.com. Tragically, she never regained her ability to talk or walk again following the accident.

Madison’s father, fondly nicknamed “Bobo,” left behind four children. In the wake of his death, the community shared messages of sympathy and support. “I pray for the kids to be ok after all this,” one heartfelt comment read.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates of the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Madison passed away on June 25 at the Children’s Hospital of Alabama. While the exact cause and manner of her death have not been confirmed, the loss is deeply felt by her family and community.

In the aftermath of the incident, Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin took to social media, urging the community to help find leads in solving this case. He passionately wrote, “I’m tired of these cowards hurting our children. Enough.”

To this day, almost two years after the incident, the Birmingham police continue to seek justice for Moss and now Madison. They are still looking for any leads that can help bring the perpetrators to justice.
