Last month, we shared the touching story of Obie, a sweet dog who was found abandoned and tied to a tree. He was taken in by the kind people at the Tyler Regional Animal Care Shelter.
In the weeks following the news about Obie, he patiently waited for the right family to come along. Now, we have an uplifting update to share!
On April 22, a bystander discovered Obie in the Frank Niederwerfer Wildlife Sanctuary in South Windsor, Connecticut. Obie was tied to the limb of a tree, waiting for help.
Though mostly in good health, Obie had red eyes, and his neck was strained from the tight collar. His collar tag read “Kobe,” which was later changed to Obie.
The Tyler Regional Animal Care Shelter took Obie in, where he was neutered, microchipped, and received all necessary vaccinations. Despite his ordeal, Obie remained a friendly and affectionate dog.
“His eyes are almost healed, and he is learning manners and personal space,” the shelter shared on Facebook. “He is LOVING all the attention from every person that meets him.”
Meanwhile, an investigation was launched, and Obie’s former owner, 26-year-old Janiya Bradford from Manchester, Connecticut, turned herself in. She faced charges of animal cruelty, as reported by NBC Connecticut.
Obie was soon placed up for adoption. Although his story attracted much attention, the shelter wanted to ensure he found the perfect home. Given his experiences, Obie needed a female-only household where he could feel safe and decompress.
The search lasted for weeks: “We have had 2 meet and greets, and 1 no call, no show. With no fault on Obie, they just were not the right fit,” the shelter updated on June 18.
Finally, exactly 60 days after Obie arrived at the shelter, they shared the joyous news everyone had been waiting for: Obie was adopted!
The shelter announced that Obie’s new owner met all the specific needs they were looking for.
In another heartwarming post, they revealed Obie “is settling into his new home and his new routine,” and his new doggy brother, Lovebug, was helping him adjust.
“It’s happy endings like this that make the long wait worth it!” the shelter added.
Obie’s story began with heartbreak, but it has ended with joy. We’re so happy Obie is doing well and has found his forever home! Enjoy your new life, Obie! ❤️🥰
