George Clooney Takes a Lighthearted Jibe at Trump During the Golden Globes
The glitz and glamour of Hollywood were on full display at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, which took place on a star-studded Sunday evening in Los Angeles. Hosted for the second year by the delightful comedian Nikki Glaser, the event celebrated outstanding achievements in film and television from around the world.

This year, the limelight shone on ‘One Battle After Another’ and ‘Hamnet’ in the film categories, while Netflix’s ‘Adolescence’ continued to impress in the television sector.
George Clooney’s Moment on Stage
While George Clooney, who is now 64, was among the hopefuls nominated for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, the award ultimately landed in the hands of Timothée Chalamet for ‘Marty Supreme.’ Despite not securing a win, Clooney’s charm was on full display when he took to the stage with Don Cheadle, ready to present the award for Best Motion Picture (Drama). This prestigious accolade went to Chloé Zhao’s ‘Hamnet.’
The crowd was in for a delightful surprise as Clooney began his speech in French, a move that garnered significant attention as it came on the heels of news about his recent French citizenship. He greeted the audience with a warm “Bonsoir, mes amis,” followed by “C’est un honneur d’être ici,” meaning “It’s an honour to be here.”
This bilingual greeting sent ripples through social media, with many perceiving it as a nuanced jest directed at Donald Trump amidst their ongoing public feud over his newfound French citizenship. Observers online were quick to comment on Clooney’s performance, noting how he subtly incorporated this international flair into Hollywood’s glittering evening, while others simply expressed curiosity about his use of French.

Life in France for the Clooney Family
Recently, George and his wife Amal, along with their eight-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander, became official French citizens. Having purchased a charming farm in France back in 2021, the family has embraced the French countryside as their primary home. They appreciate the serene environment it offers for raising children, officially announced in France’s government journal, the Journal Officiel.
However, this news didn’t sit quite so well with Donald Trump. Over New Year’s, he took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to launch a critique of the Clooney family, their decision to reside in France, and George’s political inclinations. Trump accused Clooney of lacking political insight and belittled his film career, wrapping up his post with his signature slogan, “Make America Great Again.”
In his signature suave style, Clooney later countered via Deadline, slipping in a sharp retort by linking his thoughts on American politics to the approaching midterm elections: “I totally agree with the current president. We have to make America great again. We’ll start in November.”
And thus, the banter between Clooney and Trump continues, each exchange more intriguing than the last.
