Cynthia was devastated when she found out that her mother, Dana, was dating John, her ex-boyfriend. Cynthia believed John was still dealing with a troubled past and was only interested in Dana’s wealth. She was determined to reveal his real intentions. But would Dana discover the truth before it was too late?
Cynthia had spent the morning trying to prepare herself for meeting Dana’s new man. Dana had been strangely secretive about him, which made Cynthia suspicious.
“Hello,” Cynthia called out as she stepped into the apartment.
She scanned the room and saw her mom sitting on the sofa. Next to her was a man, but Cynthia could only see the back of his head. Mom self-consciously straightened her dress, indicating they had just been intimate.
“Oh, sweetie, you’re early,” Mom said with a shy smile. “Since you’re here, let me introduce you to my boyfriend, John.”
The man stood up, straightened his shirt, and ran his fingers through his hair. Cynthia noticed he was young, closer to her age than her mom’s, but the biggest shock came when he turned around.
Cynthia’s jaw dropped. It was John, her ex-boyfriend from nearly two years ago.
The oven timer dinged, breaking the tension.
“You two get to know each other while I grab the pie!” Dana said, leaving the room.
Seizing the moment, Cynthia confronted John. “Is this your revenge for me dumping you?” she hissed.
“No, Cynthia, it’s not like that,” John replied. “I didn’t know Dana was your mother. I’m over what happened between us.”
“Everything’s ready!” Dana called out, inviting them to the meal.
They sat down at the table, but Cynthia kept her eyes on John. As Dana went to fetch the wine, Cynthia grabbed John’s wrist.
“You need to leave now,” she warned. “Before I tell Mom everything.”
“Oh, you noticed the watch? Isn’t it beautiful?” Mom said, returning to the room.
Cynthia glanced at John’s wrist, noticing the expensive watch. “I bought it for him,” Dana added happily.
“Has he ever given you anything?” Cynthia asked skeptically.
“Yes, this statue,” Mom replied, showing a misshapen clay figure. “He made it himself.”
She handed Cynthia the statue. Cynthia examined it with disdain. “He really made this? I’d never have guessed.”
“I wonder if this statue has a secret, just like you do,” Cynthia said, smiling sweetly at John.
“What are you talking about?” Dana sighed, joining them.
“Oh, just wondering why John didn’t tell you—”
“I dated your daughter,” John interrupted.
Dana was horrified.
“That’s not all, Mom. I broke up with him because he’s an escort!” Cynthia revealed.
“An escort?” Dana whispered.
“Yes, I was an escort,” John admitted. He tried to explain, but Cynthia cut him off, recounting their past relationship and his deceitful actions.
“I’m sorry, but you needed to know the truth, Mom,” Cynthia concluded.
“John, is all this true?” Dana asked, her eyes filled with hurt.
John couldn’t meet her gaze. “Yes,” he confessed. “I should’ve told you about my past.”
Silence filled the room as the reality set in. Dana looked shattered.
Then, unexpectedly, John spoke up. “I bought a ring to propose to you, Dana. But I think you deserve better.”
Cynthia was stunned. As John moved to leave, Dana surprised everyone by saying, “My answer is yes.”
Cynthia couldn’t believe it. “Are you serious?” John asked, his face lighting up.
“You make me happy, John,” Dana said. “No more secrets, okay?”
Cynthia was furious. “He’s fooling you!” she cried. “Do you think a young guy like him cares about you for nothing?”
Hurt by Cynthia’s words, Dana looked to John for reassurance. Cynthia, determined, smashed the clay statue. “I’m going to prove it,” she vowed before storming out.
From her car, Cynthia watched John take a cab. She followed him to a coffee shop, disguised herself, and spied on him. She saw him give roses to an older woman and recorded him proposing to her.
The next day, at Dana’s engagement party, Cynthia exposed John with the recorded evidence. “Stop this sham, Mom! John is deceiving you!” she declared, showing Dana the pictures of John proposing to another woman.
Dana faced John, who had just arrived. “Here’s your payment for six months. I don’t need your services anymore!” she said, showing him the photos.
John, confused, tried to explain. At that moment, the woman from the pictures entered. Cynthia accused John of bringing his mistress to the engagement party.
“My mistress?” John turned to the woman. “Mom, there’s a misunderstanding.”
It was revealed that the woman was John’s mother, and the proposal was just a rehearsal. Theresa explained John’s past, and Cynthia realized her mistake.
As Cynthia grasped what she’d done, she apologized to her mom and John. “If you’re happy, I’ll support you,” she said.
Later, Cynthia gave John a thick envelope. “Ensure Mom signs these after the wedding,” she instructed.
“Will she trust me to sign these?” John asked.
“Too trusting,” Cynthia replied with a cunning smile. “You have kept me begging long enough. Now, I’ll get all that family money.”
Pushing those thoughts away, Cynthia kissed John. “I’ve missed this,” she whispered.
