There’s something truly heartwarming about seeing people come together to help animals in need. It’s often a thankless job, as animals don’t usually display much appreciation. However, every now and then, an animal finds a way to show gratitude. This was the case with one kangaroo who offered a handshake to the men who saved him.
David Boyd, a passerby, spotted a distressed kangaroo struggling in the freezing waters of Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra. The poor animal was unable to escape the icy water on its own.
Thankfully, two brave individuals didn’t hesitate to jump into the lake to rescue the kangaroo.
With great care, the men approached the frightened kangaroo, taking caution not to startle it further. When they tried to grasp its arms to guide it towards safety, the kangaroo initially flailed its arms in fear.
However, their determination paid off as they were able to secure a hold on the animal and lead it out of harm’s way.
A third man then stepped in to assist, lifting the kangaroo onto dry land and helping to calm the shivering, scared animal.
It’s important to note that while kangaroos appear gentle, they can be quite dangerous if they feel threatened. Their defensive abilities include powerful punches, sharp claws, and a kick that experts warn could seriously injure a person.
Fortunately, this kangaroo seemed to understand that the men were there to help. In a touching moment, it held out its paw, almost as if it was offering a handshake in gratitude.
One of the rescuers, who was filming the incident, can be heard saying, “Aw, he’s thanking you.”
According to reports, the kangaroo was initially in shock and needed about half an hour to calm down. However, onlookers mentioned that it eventually hopped away, seemingly unharmed and ready to continue its journey.
