“Blood is pooling out and I freaked out,” the ‘America’s Got Talent’ judge said.
Howie Mandel is sharing a frightening moment from his life when he found his wife, Terry Mandel, lying in a pool of blood after a scary fall.
During a recent appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark, the America’s Got Talent judge explained to Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos how his wife fell and ended up in the hospital during a trip to Las Vegas earlier this year.
“We partied. It was too much. She was tipsy. I did not know that, and in the middle of the night she got up and, I don’t know where she was headed, but she headed into the wall. She fell and hit the wainscoting,” Howie recalled. “She hit that as she went down. She slipped, went down, hit that on her eye, fell on the floor, and broke her cheek.”
Mandel then shared a graphic image of his wife, showing a two-inch cut on her forehead and a dark purple bruise around her eye. He admitted that he started panicking seeing all the blood coming from her head.
“Blood is pooling out and I freaked out. I picked her up, I put her on the bed. There’s blood everywhere,” he explained. “I saw her head, and you could actually see her skull. It opened up. I freaked.”
Amidst the chaos, Howie called hotel staff for help. Instead of calling 911, they sent ten security guards to his room.
“When security arrived and saw all the blood, it didn’t look good for me,” he joked.
“It’s a crime scene!” Mark Consuelos teased.
Howie reassured everyone, explaining, “If someone was ever beat up in that room, I promise it would be me. I am the most annoying person in the world. My wife is a saint.”
Terry was eventually taken to the hospital, and Howie shared the good news that she has since made a full recovery.
“She is absolutely perfect. There’s not a scar. She’s beautiful,” he said, showing a recent photo of the couple with her face healed.
In true Howie fashion, he ended on a lighthearted note, saying, “People said, ‘What happened?’ and she said, ‘Vegas.’”
Indeed, the city known for its bright lights and endless entertainment provided the Mandels with a night they won’t soon forget—but thankfully, with a happy ending.
