Kate Hudson has long cherished her stepdad Kurt Russell as a treasured member of her family. Their bond spans more than 40 years, and she couldn’t let Father’s Day pass without honoring him.
This past Sunday, June 16, the Glass Onion actress, 45, posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. In it, she affectionately referred to Russell, 73, as “Pa” and expressed her deep love and gratitude for him.
She shared a delightful photo of the two of them smiling for a selfie, along with other snapshots, including one where Russell waves at her across a dinner table and another of him embracing her mom, Goldie Hawn.
“I love my Pa so much! What a man, lucky me 💫 Love you Pa ❤️. Happy Father’s Day!” she wrote, wrapping up her touching message.
Goldie and Kurt first met in 1968, but it wasn’t until 1983 that they became a couple, following marriages and children with other partners. Goldie shares Kate and her brother Oliver with ex-husband Bill Hudson, while Kurt has a son, Boston, with ex-wife Season Hubley. Together, Goldie and Kurt share their son Wyatt.
Kurt has been a father figure to Kate since she was just four years old. Over the years, the family has openly shared their love and appreciation for each other. Recently, Kurt praised Kate’s debut album, Glorious, highlighting his favorite tracks.
“I like the way she kicks that out there,” he said about the album’s title track. Kurt particularly enjoyed the songs “about Goldie” and his grandson Ryder, including one titled “Live Forever.”
He added, “Those songs are really good, really well done. I think it’s fun,” and praised Kate, saying, “She can sing. The girl can sing, so it’s fun to see her just do it and have a fun time with it.”
When Kurt turned 70 in 2021, Kate shared another heartfelt tribute on Instagram. She reflected on his impact on her life, noting, “He has taught me that we can all exist with immense love through our differences. He gave me the gift of confidence, instilling a knowingness in me that I deserved everything I worked for.”
Kate also highlighted how Kurt’s belief in her gave her the courage to face life’s challenges. “When you have a dad who gives you permission to be confident, you live courageously,” she said.
In interviews, Kate often speaks about her parents’ long-lasting relationship, which has endured over four decades. She admires the dedication Goldie and Kurt have shown to one another.
“Their strongest value is their dedication to that unit. They’ve been through everything together, and it’s such an amazing thing to see, especially as they get older, how beautiful their relationship is. It’s so loving and caring,” Kate said in May.
She added, “They’ve stuck with it. It’s like a very rare Hollywood story. They’re in it forever. It’s wild.”
