“Both Johnny and I, we adore our characters, Kate and Anthony, so much,” Ashley said at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival.
Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey aren’t quite ready to say goodbye to Bridgerton!
During a recent appearance at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival, Simone Ashley, 29, talked about whether she and Jonathan Bailey, 36, will bring their beloved characters back for the Netflix series’ fourth season.
When asked if they will return as Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma in the upcoming season, Ashley said to reporters, “I really hope so.”
“Both Johnny and I, we adore our characters, Kate and Anthony, so much and their relationship and what they mean for the show,” she expressed. “We’ll do all we can with our schedules to make it work.”
In season 2, Kate and Anthony became the central love story. Their characters made appearances in season 3, even deciding to journey from the Bridgertons’ London residence to Kate’s hometown in India to welcome their first child.
Other Bridgerton characters, including Anthony’s sisters Eloise and Francesca, also leave London after season 3. It’s still uncertain which Bridgerton sibling will be the main focus in season 4.
Just as in the Julia Quinn books that the series is based on, each Bridgerton season focuses on a different family member’s quest for love. Netflix has yet to announce who will lead season 4.
Luke Thompson, who portrays Benedict Bridgerton, recently shared on The View that he doesn’t know if his character will be the focus next season. However, he loves exploring the character, stating, “one of the best things about a TV job is you get to really explore a character long-form.”
Season 3 of the series focused on the love tale of Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton). Before their episodes aired, Ashley made sure to support the new lead actors.
At the series’ New York City premiere on May 13, Ashley said she was there to help and be a friend. “Me and Nicola would check in on each other,” she shared. “She is such an inspiration to me and I learned so much from her.”
Ashley added, “It was just amazing to have that kind of support in your work environment.”
Bridgerton seasons 1 through 3 are available for streaming on Netflix.
