Miranda Lambert mourning two rescue dogs who died within 6 weeks: “two of the best and most loyal friends”

Saying goodbye to a pet is never easy, but losing two in a short period is truly heart-wrenching.

Recently, country music star Miranda Lambert shared the sad news about the passing of two of her beloved rescue dogs within just six weeks of each other.

Despite her sorrow, she took the moment to encourage others to consider rescuing pets. See her touching tribute below:

The 40-year-old “House that Built Me” singer announced on social media that she recently had to say goodbye to two of her rescue companions: Delta Dawn, a Chihuahua-pug mix, and Louise, a Great Pyrenees.

Rest in peace, Delta Dawn and Louise

“In the last 6 weeks, two of the best and most loyal friends I have ever had have left this earth,” Lambert shared in an Instagram post.

She described Delta Dawn as a “once in a lifetime” kind of dog. Lambert remembered finding her at a Sonic drive-in back in 2009 when she was homeless and hungry but still full of personality.

“I opened my car door and she jumped in. Little did I know, while getting a cherry limeade, I would meet one of the most amazing dogs I’d ever know,” Lambert reflected. “I spent around 16 years with her, and she accompanied me on nearly every tour. I feel privileged to have met her and learned so much from her.”

Lambert revealed that Delta Dawn passed away on April 22. Only a few weeks later, she faced another loss with the passing of Louise, another one of her rescue dogs.

Lambert adopted Louise and her sister Thelma from a shelter in 2016. The pair quickly settled into life on her Nashville farm and even became the farm’s guardian dogs.

“The first day they arrived, they instantly felt at home,” Lambert shared. “With mini horses, chickens, and goats on my farm, I needed protectors for them. And they did their job incredibly well.”

Thelma had passed away last July, with Lambert announcing at the time that it “hurts so bad to say goodbye.” Now Louise has joined her sister across the rainbow bridge, leaving a big hole in Lambert’s heart.

“Great Pyrenees have stolen my heart entirely. They are loving, kind, patient, aware, protective, and fighters till the end. I aspire to be more like them every day. There’s a rescue animal out there for everyone; you just need to open your heart to the love they offer.”

“The power of a rescue”

Amidst her mourning, Lambert also emphasized the transformative power of rescuing dogs and the profound impact they can have on us emotionally.

“I want everyone to know that I stand for rescue because I live it every day, continually blessed by the joy these animals bring into my life. Some days, like today, I’m heartbroken from losing them. To love deeply means you also hurt deeply, but they are worth it all.”

“Shelters across the country are facing overcrowding issues, and this is my heartfelt plea to you all. Please consider adopting, fostering, or volunteering. You never know what blessing awaits you.”

“As you enjoy your backyards and family time this summer, think about bringing a shelter pet into those precious moments. They will undoubtedly change your life for the better.”
