“If you looked at us on two different teams, you really didn’t even think we were brothers; we just had the same last name,” Travis said
Travis Kelce knows that from the outside, fans may not think he and his brother Jason Kelce have much in common.
During a friendly chat with Good Morning America’s Will Reeve that aired on Thursday, June 6, 34-year-old NFL star Travis opened up about the success of the podcast he and his brother Jason Kelce host, called New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce. He explained that he launched it so fans could better appreciate their sibling bond.
“If you saw us on different teams, you wouldn’t even think we were brothers; we just share the same last name,” Travis said, playfully poking fun at Jason’s fashion sense. “He’s like the neanderthal that wears flip flops in the winter and doesn’t care about his appearance. Meanwhile, I enjoy getting dressed up and having fun with fashion.”
Since they launched their podcast in September 2022, it’s become a massive hit. In March, it was named podcast of the year at iHeartMedia’s 2024 iHeartPodcast Awards.
“I couldn’t have imagined it would grow this big,” Jason told Reeve. “I’m so grateful that people have connected with our family dynamic because that’s what I wanted when we started. Through the podcast, we’ve shown just how close we are as brothers.”
New episodes of New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce come out weekly, featuring the brothers discussing their lives and careers.
Travis and the Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up for a new NFL season, defending their back-to-back Super Bowl championships.
Off the field, Travis has been busy. Between cheering on girlfriend Taylor Swift on her international tour, he’s also filmed scenes for an upcoming Ryan Murphy series, “Grotesquerie,” and wrapped up shooting on “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?,” which he will host for Prime Video.
The Chiefs have been in the spotlight this offseason since their win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. Notably, kicker Harrison Butker made waves with a controversial speech at Benedictine College’s graduation ceremony, and some players have faced legal allegations.
Butker, 28, criticized various “diabolical lies told to women” during his speech, touching on sensitive topics like abortion, in vitro fertilization (IVF), surrogacy, and even President Joe Biden.
After Butker’s comments went viral on social media, Travis addressed the backlash on an episode of New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce.
“I cherish him as a teammate,” Travis said about Butker. “He’s always treated my friends and family with respect and kindness, and that’s how he treats everyone. As for his views, especially his religious ones, those are his own. I don’t agree with most of what he said, but I believe we shouldn’t judge people for their views, particularly religious ones. That’s not who I am.”
The upcoming NFL season will be the first for Travis without Jason in the league, as Jason retired from football in March.
Jason, 36, announced his retirement in an emotional 40-minute speech, reminiscing about playing football with Travis since they were kids. “We won countless Super Bowls in our minds before even leaving the house,” Jason recalled, remembering their childhood games supported by their mom Donna Kelce, who always packed Capri Sun drinks for them.
On the June 5 episode of their podcast, Jason mentioned adjusting to retired life. “It feels weird, not going to the building and missing those little conversations,” said Jason, speaking about his first offseason after retiring. “You’ll realize it, Trav, once it’s gone.”
Travis jokingly responded, “I’m never doing it. Not after that.”
Good Morning America airs weekdays starting at 7 a.m. ET on ABC.
