The star celebrated her film ‘Atlas’ being No. 1 on Netflix for two weeks in a row
Jennifer Lopez is speaking out about the “negativity” in the world while celebrating a major milestone in her career.
Her latest sci-fi movie, ‘Atlas’, has topped Netflix’s English Films List and maintained its position as the most-watched title on the platform for the second consecutive week, according to Netflix statistics.
In her OnTheJLo newsletter on June 5, Lopez shared, “I just found out some great news, and it’s all because of YOU!! ATLAS is #1 worldwide again this week!!! Thank you all so much!!!” She added, “It may seem like there’s a lot of negativity out in the world right now, but don’t let the voices of a few drown out the fact that there’s soooo much love out there. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I love you all so much.”
In the movie, Lopez not only plays the lead role but she also serves as a producer. Her character, Atlas Shepherd, is described as a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep-seated distrust of artificial intelligence. The storyline revolves around saving the future of humanity from AI.
‘Atlas’ is directed by Brad Peyton and features a star-studded cast including Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, Gregory James Cohan, Abraham Popoola, Lana Parrilla, and Mark Strong.
Lopez’s action-packed film ‘The Mother,’ released in May 2023, was another big hit for Netflix last year. It currently stands at No. 9 on the platform’s list of most-watched films of all time.
Though Lopez didn’t elaborate on the “negativity” she mentioned, the release of ‘Atlas’ coincided with ongoing speculation about her marriage with Ben Affleck. Sources said that their relationship is currently “not in the best place” and that the couple has been living separately recently.
Lopez also made a significant decision last week to cancel her summer concert tour to dedicate more time to her family and friends.
About her decision, she stated in a message to her fans, “I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down. Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary.”
She continued, “I promise I will make it up to you, and we will all be together again. I love you all so much. Until next time.”
