The Marvel star, 53, is dad to Ava, 11, with ex Sonni Pacheco.
Jeremy Renner is making sure his daughter knows she comes first in his life.
On a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Jeremy Renner, aged 53, shared with host Josh Horowitz that he chose not to reprise his role of William Brandt in Mission: Impossible — Fallout. Instead, he opted to spend quality time with his 11-year-old daughter Ava, whom he shares with his ex Sonni Pacheco.
“There [was] no schedule, so I can’t go out for a year and a half. I gotta go be a dad,” he explained. “I can’t just move my daughter out here because [her] mom is — you know, I was landlocked out here. I couldn’t film overseas anymore.”
Renner also mentioned that the production team suggested he travel overseas for a brief period, only to have his character get written off. “I remember they tried to bring me [overseas] for a week so they could kill my character, and I was like, ‘No, you don’t get to do that. You’re not going to drag me over there and just kill my character,’” he vividly recalled.
He continued, “If you’re going to do this and you’re going to use my character, you’re going to do it right.” The actor even confessed he had an intense conversation with director Christopher McQuarrie about the situation, stating, “I yelled at Chris for trying to kill my character.”
However, there’s hope for Mission: Impossible fans. Renner added, “When my daughter’s older, maybe there’s more of an opportunity do something.”
The Hawkeye star recently celebrated his daughter Ava’s 11th birthday. He shared a joyous video on Instagram, showcasing a touching father-daughter moment. In the video, Ava wraps her arms around Renner while he gives her a tender kiss on the forehead.
He captioned the post: “As she grows, so grows our love, respect, and adoration … Happy 11th Birthday to my number one ❤️🔥🎁❤️🎁 #luckyman🍀.”
Jeremy Renner and Sonni Pacheco welcomed Ava in March 2013 when Renner was 42. The actor has previously expressed that fatherhood, especially at a later stage in life, has been the most rewarding experience for him.
“Becoming a dad later on in life is the best thing I’ve ever done,” Renner has said in various interviews, emphasizing the profound impact it has had on him.
