“Love you to the moon and back,” the pop superstar wrote to her dad.
Madonna is raising a toast to her father, Silvio Ciccone, in honor of his 93rd birthday! Silvio, fondly referred to as the “O.G. Daddy,” has always been one of the central figures in Madonna’s life.
The pop icon, who is now 65 years old, took to Instagram this past Sunday, June 2nd, to share a heartwarming post filled with several nostalgic photos of herself and her father through the years.
“Congratulations for riding the roller coaster of life with humor and sanity intact,” Madonna expressed in her caption. “Thank you for sharing your mantra in life with me, which is: ‘I’m gonna go until the wheels fall off.’”
With evident affection, she added, “Nothing can stop us! Love you to the moon and back.”
In the first two images of Madonna’s post, Silvio can be seen warmly hugging his daughter backstage at one of her events. It’s a touching moment that reflects their close bond.
The rest of the slideshow includes a memorable photo of the father-daughter duo on stage early in Madonna’s music career, a nostalgic family portrait featuring Madonna’s late mother, Madonna Louise, and a classic photo of Silvio from back in the day.
Rosie O’Donnell commented under the post with a simple, “Sweet ❤️❤️❤️.”
Reflecting on her father’s life journey, Madonna wrote in another Instagram post about Silvio being a survivor who grew up as an Italian immigrant in the US, enduring many hardships but always working hard for everything he achieved.
“He taught me the importance of hard work and earning one’s way in life… Again I thank you,” she said, punctuating her gratitude with a heartfelt “🙏🏼”
Madonna reminisced about a special moment they had shared: “It was so special to spend your 90th birthday with you and my children in your vineyard. 🍇🎂🍷🎉♥️ #happybirthday.”
On Mother’s Day last month, the pop superstar honored her late mother with a vulnerable Instagram post. She reflected on her mother’s death in 1963 at the young age of 30 due to breast cancer.
Madonna wrote, “I stood on stage for 81 shows staring up at the beautiful face of my mother and wondering what she must’ve been thinking as she waved goodbye to me from her hospital window. I stepped into the station wagon and shut the door not knowing it was the last time I’d see her.”
She elaborated on how her mother’s mysterious disappearance was difficult to grapple with as a young child: “Nobody told me my mother was dying — I just watched her disintegrate mysteriously and then she disappeared and there was no explanation except that she had gone to sleep.” This experience left Madonna with a complex relationship with sleep over the years.
Madonna, who is a mother to Lourdes (27), Rocco (23), David (18), Mercy (18), and twins Stella and Estere (11), shared her thoughts on motherhood, emphasizing that there is no easy or straightforward path to being a parent.
“No manual or University,” she explained. “Just trial and error and learn and succeed and then fail again. Finally the realization that they were raising me and not the other way around.”
