Kingston was arrested in California on May 23 after authorities raided his rented Florida mansion.
Sean Kingston is facing 10 fraud and theft charges after his Florida mansion was raided by authorities, his mother was taken into custody, and he was arrested in California.
According to arrest warrants released by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, the “Me Love” singer was arrested on one count of organized scheme to defraud, four counts of criminal use of personal identification information, two counts of grand theft greater than $100,000, one count of grand theft greater than $20,000, and one count of fraud. He has also been charged with violating his probation.
The documents reveal that Kingston, 34, and his mother Janice Turner, 61, allegedly ripped off a jeweler, a car dealer, and several other businesses for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Specific details aren’t included in the warrant, but it mentions that the “Take You There” singer stole nearly $500,000 in jewelry, $160,000 from an Escalade dealer, $86,000 from the maker of customized beds, and more.
Before his arrest, Kingston was already on two years probation for trafficking stolen property. Meanwhile, Turner is facing a total of eight charges, including one count of organized scheme to defraud, three counts of criminal use of personal identification information, two counts of grand theft over $100,000, one count of grand theft over $20,000, and one count of fraud.
The “Beautiful Girls” singer was arrested on May 23 following a raid on a South Florida mansion he was renting. After the raid, his mother was taken into custody in Florida, but Sean Kingston was in California for a performance at that time.
“This evening, police in Fort Irwin, Calif., arrested Kisean Anderson, aka Sean Kingston, without incident on a Broward Sheriff’s Office arrest warrant for numerous fraud and theft charges,” the Broward Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “According to investigators, he will be booked into jail in San Bernardino, Calif.”
Turner was arrested on her own fraud and theft charges. The Broward Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the arrest and search warrants were executed at a Southwest Ranches residence. The investigation is active and ongoing.
“People love negative energy! I am good and so is my mother!” Kingston wrote on his Instagram Stories before his arrest. “My lawyers are handling everything as we speak.”
The raid in Florida followed a February lawsuit filed by Ver Ver Entertainment against Kingston. The suit claimed that he had not paid for items purchased from the company.
The complaint stated that Kingston presented “numerous false representations” to the company and claimed to have a “current and ongoing working relationship” with Justin Bieber.
The complaint alleged that he breached his contract by failing to pay for the items despite multiple attempts to collect payment in January. According to Ver Ver Entertainment, a judgment was entered against Kingston in 2015 after he obtained $356,000 in watches without paying. Additional judgments were entered in 2016 and 2022 when he allegedly acquired $301,500 in jewelry and luxury watches worth over $1 million without payment.
“I filed a lawsuit against Sean Kingston,” attorney Dennis Card said. “A detective in Broward County read my lawsuit and contacted me, and so we went down and gave a recorded statement and an affidavit along with my client.”
He added that they’ve been “waiting on this raid for more than two months now.”
