Bride Carries Beloved Dog Instead of Bouquet on Wedding Day: ‘It Was Only Fitting’

“The guests didn’t know if they were going to cry or laugh,” bride Joelle Yuvienco shared in an interview.

Joelle Yuvienco knew she wanted to do something unique for her wedding. When she saw her dog, Sago, looking on as she posed for photos on the morning of her big day, she made a spontaneous choice to carry the furry friend down the aisle instead of a traditional flower bouquet.

“The guests didn’t know if they were going to cry or laugh at Sago’s cuteness,” Joelle recounted, noting that even her groom, Lenard Santos, was taken by surprise.

The couple tied the knot on April 4, 2024, at Mahogany Place in Tagaytay, Philippines. Having met on Bumble, they incorporated the app’s theme into their wedding, dressing Sago in a delightful bumblebee outfit for her special role.

Instead of the customary flowers, Joelle had floral designs on her nails and veil, making her look stand out even more.

Joelle reflected on how comfortable Sago seemed throughout the event and expressed immense satisfaction with her impromptu decision.

“I am humbled by how much love people have shown for Sago. She’s truly my ‘soul dog,’ and sharing her with the world on such a special day means everything to me. It’s also heartening to see other brides taking inspiration to include their furry friends in their big day,” Joelle said with appreciation.

“Sago has been with me through all the significant moments of my adult life—from post-college days and career changes to personal triumphs and heartbreaks. It felt only right that she walked down the aisle with me,” Joelle emotionally shared.
