North was a special guest in ‘The Lion King’ production at the Hollywood Bowl over Memorial Day weekend.
North West’s fun — and comfortable — costume for Disney’s The Lion King live-to-film concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles over Memorial Day weekend was all her own.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s 10-year-old daughter performed as Young Simba in the May 24 and May 25 production, singing “I Just Can’t Wait to be King” from the animated film in honor of its 30th anniversary. For her performance, she wore a yellow furry hooded sweatshirt with matching shorts, socks and furry slippers to match.
Some TikTok users noticed that North’s costume in the production looked fairly different from the Simba costume typically used in the Broadway version of The Lion King. The production at the Hollywood Bowl was not a staging of the Broadway show, but rather a performance of songs from the original film alongside the animated footage and appearances from cast members from the 1994 movie and the 2019 remake. North was billed as a “special guest” alongside Jennifer Hudson.A spokesperson involved with the show confirmed that North, Hudson and Jeremy Irons were not outfitted by the production. Costume designer Marina Toybina was responsible for the ensembles worn by the other performers and dancers.
Later, on Tuesday, may 28, ERL clothing revealed on Instagram that the brand handled the costume design of North’s look.
North’s mom, Kardashian, 43, celebrated North’s stage debut online and shared several behind-the-scenes videos and images of North with her castmates and getting ready for the production. She also posted photos of North helping her younger sister, Chicago, 6, with her hair, captioning it “never too busy to help her sister with her edges.”
North’s casting in the two-day production was announced on May 8. The celebrities she appeared alongside included Billy Eichner, Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, Bradley Gibson and Jason Weaver.
North previously performed “Talking” alongside her father Kanye West at Rolling Loud 2024 and also announced her debut album a week prior to the performance. According to a press release, The Lion King at the Hollywood Bowl, is set to eventually stream on Disney+.
