A tragic incident has rocked Missouri as a married couple serving as American missionaries in Haiti were killed on May 23, a fact confirmed by the victims’ family members. Among the deceased was the daughter of a local Missouri state representative.

David (Davy) Lloyd III and his wife, Natalie—daughter of Missouri state Rep. Ben Baker—sadly lost their lives along with a third individual when they were ambushed by a local gang in Haiti. The couple had dedicated their lives to the organization Missions in Haiti Inc., founded and managed by Lloyd’s parents since 2000.

The heartbreaking news was shared by Missions in Haiti Inc. on Facebook: “Davy, Natalie and Jude were shot and killed by the gang about 9 o’clock this evening. We are all devastated.”

The identity of the third victim remains undisclosed at this time.

An earlier post from the organization provided more insight into the tragic event. The couple, who had recently married in 2022, were ambushed after leaving a youth event at their church. “This evening, when Davy, Natalie, and the kids were leaving the Youth event at the church, they were ambushed by a gang in three trucks full of guys. Davy was taken to their house, tied up, and beaten,” the post read.

Rep. Ben Baker expressed his profound grief in an emotional Facebook post: “My heart is broken in a thousand pieces. I’ve never felt this kind of pain,” he wrote. “They were attacked by gangs this evening and were both killed. They went to Heaven together. Please pray for my family; we desperately need strength. And please pray for the Lloyd family as well. I have no other words for now.”

Amid this tragic news, a spokesperson for national security at the White House commented to CNN, stating: “We are aware of the reports of the deaths of U.S. citizens in Haiti. Our hearts go out to the families of those killed as they experience unimaginable grief.”

The spokesperson further highlighted the urgent need to address the security situation in Haiti: “The security situation in Haiti cannot wait. That is why yesterday, President Biden reiterated our commitment to support the expedited deployment of the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission to bolster the Haitian National Police’s capabilities to protect civilians, restore the rule of law, and pave the way to democratic governance.” The statement underscored the importance of civilian safety amid the ongoing crisis.
