The “Roar” singer first entered into a contract to buy the sprawling California property from entrepreneur Carl Westcott in 2020.
Katy Perry, known for her vibrant music and larger-than-life performances, has finally secured ownership of her beautiful Montecito, California home after a lengthy legal battle.
In 2020, the singer decided to purchase an incredible property from Carl Westcott, a well-known entrepreneur. Originally built in the 1930s, this home promises ample space with its eight bedrooms and eleven bathrooms. It’s a dream family home that Katy and her fiancé Orlando Bloom cherish.
The property records obtained confirm that Katy Perry, now 39 years old, holds the ownership of this scenic Santa Barbara County mansion under the LLC named DDoveB. The LLC’s name carries a personal touch, honoring her three-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove.
The deal, finalized in July 2020, involved a staggering $15 million. It offered lavish amenities including a luxurious infinity pool, jacuzzi, outdoor kitchen area, and an impressive three-bedroom guesthouse that overlooks the breathtaking ocean. It sits on roughly 2.5 acres, spanning 9,285 square feet and featuring plenty of room to enjoy the Californian lifestyle.
However, things took a complicated turn days after the deal. Westcott, who had been diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease in 2015, attempted to call off the agreement, citing mental incapacity due to the disease. The situation intensified further when Westcott filed a lawsuit against Perry’s business manager Bernie Gudvi in August 2020, claiming he was not mentally fit to make such decisions at the time of the sale.
The case was brought to trial in late September 2023. During the legal proceedings, Westcott’s attorney, Andrew Thomas, argued that Carl Westcott was suffering from confusion and delusional thoughts induced by medication after spinal surgery.
Westcott began to feel mentally clear soon after the surgery and immediately informed his real estate advisors that he had not been in the right state of mind to sign the contract.
Despite these claims, the court issued a tentative ruling favoring Katy Perry in November 2023. The court stated that Westcott did not present compelling evidence proving his incapacity to engage in a real estate contract.
By December 2023, the court issued a “Final Statement of Decision,” again siding with Perry. It was concluded that Bernie Gudvi, representing Perry, was entitled to specific performance of the real estate deal. Further discussions on “damages and/or other remedies” are scheduled for a trial in July.
Even with this backdrop of legal challenges, Katy Perry can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing she officially owns this Montecito haven. The singer’s dedication to seeing this journey to an end reflects her passion and commitment, extending beyond her music to her dream home.
