Prayers for Brooke Shields – A Journey of Healing
After a severe injury and a subsequent infection, beloved actress Brooke Shields is in need of our prayers and support. Her resilience and determination to heal are truly inspiring.
Earlier this year, Brooke Shields had a scary accident where she fractured her femur, a serious injury that necessitated multiple surgeries. As if that wasn’t challenging enough, she developed a painful staph infection during her recovery. Despite these hardships, Brooke has shown incredible strength by avoiding prescription painkillers.
In a recent talk at The Marie Claire Power Trip: Off the Grid event, the 55-year-old actress opened up about her fear of becoming addicted to pain medications like OxyContin or Vicodin. Instead, she opted only for over-the-counter medications like Tylenol. She explained, “I didn’t want to leave the hospital with no pain, return home, and think I was dying because the pain was so bad.”
Brooke wanted to ensure she could clearly distinguish between normal recovery pain and any new or severe pain that might indicate further injury. She said, “When you start to feel pain, you think you’ve been hurt again. I wanted to understand the difference between pain and additional injury.”
Her approach wasn’t about trying to be a hero. Brooke stressed the importance of managing pain effectively, acknowledging it, but not necessarily relying on stronger, potentially addictive substances. She used ice, physical therapy, stretching, Advil, and Tylenol, and when needed at night, a Tylenol PM.
Despite her remarkable progress, Brooke admitted that she still deals with considerable bone pain and has been surprised by the extent of her muscle atrophy post-accident. However, she has been diligently working on her recovery.
Brooke is now focusing on low-impact exercises and physical therapy to regain her strength. “I can do SoulCycle because there’s no impact. I love doing Pilates. My trainer focuses on the physical therapy part, particularly on my knees. Weight training helps strengthen the muscles around my joints and ligaments to prevent further injury,” she explained. She emphasized the importance of understanding her body and learning throughout her recovery process.
