It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of country music legend, Toby Keith. On February 6, his team announced his peaceful passing on his official Instagram page. Toby Keith, who had been battling stomach cancer, passed away at the age of 62.
Toby Keith’s journey with cancer was one of grace and courage. Despite his diagnosis, he made great strides in his treatment and even returned to the stage for a time. Just two days ago, he shared a video of himself performing for a large crowd, holding up his guitar as he soaked in the applause. Heartbreaking.
In June 2022, Toby Keith shared the news of his diagnosis and had to cancel his tour. He underwent months of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery to fight stomach cancer. However, he remained optimistic and said, “I will see the fans sooner than later. I can’t wait.”
To the surprise of his fans, nearly a year and a half later, Toby Keith made an appearance at a celebration following the Oklahoma Sooners’ softball team winning the NCAA championship. In an update on his battle with cancer, he shared that he was feeling good and that his tumor had shrunk. He expressed his desire to bring the band back and play shows for two or three days straight.
As Toby Keith approached his 62nd birthday, he revealed that he was still undergoing chemo and immunotherapy treatments. The good news was that his cancer had shrunk by a third, and his blood tests showed positive results. He explained that the treatments involved putting oxygen in his blood, high doses of vitamin C, and nutrient bags to support his body’s healing process.
Despite the challenges of fighting cancer, Toby Keith remained determined and continued to make music. His recent Instagram post showed him back in action, rehearsing for a pop-up show that turned into a 2 1/2-hour performance. Toby Keith was truly back, singing all his hits and the beloved Bus Songs.
