Jeff Beck, The Yardbirds’ guitarist, died not long ago, and the entire music community grieves.
The musician’s family announced on Wednesday that bacterial meningitis was the cause of his death the day before. On Wednesday, the announcement was made public. He was 78.
“On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound regret that we relay the news of Jeff Beck’s passing,” his family said in a statement. “After an unexpected struggle with bacterial meningitis, he succumbed to his disease and passed away yesterday without any difficulty or agony,” his family said. His family wants privacy during this terrible time as they struggle to come to terms with their loved one’s death.
Many of Beck’s old friends and business partners, including his former Yardbirds bandmate Jimmy Page, shared their recollections of him with the public after learning of his death. After replacing Page in the English rock band in 1965, he finally became the band’s guitarist for Eric Clapton the following year.
“The Warrior of the Six Strings is no longer here to be revered for the spell he could cast on ordinary people’s emotions. This was something he excelled at. Jeff’s channeling abilities enable him to access music from other dimensions. His approach is unique. He looks to have an infinite capacity for inventiveness. I’m sure I speak for all your many other fans when I say I’ll miss you greatly, Jeff. May you finally find the peace you dearly deserve.”
She’s the Boss, Mick Jagger’s debut solo album was released in 1985. On the album, Beck was requested to play lead guitar. “We have lost a wonderful man and one of the best guitar players in the world,” Jagger tweeted in response to Beck’s death.
He said that everyone would be devastated if he died.
